Direction, construction and performance Gaspare Nasuto
Gaspare Nasuto began his work in 1989, teaching courses in wood sculpture and is responsible for a new generation of puppeteers.
Puppeteer and sculptor, he is considered to be one of the great masters in Neapolitan puppet tradition, the person to know for those who want to uncover the secrets of Neapolitan Guarattelle.
His wood puppets, small masterpieces of craftsmanship, may be found in private collections, in Italian museums and abroad. Gaspare Nasuto, Ambassador for the Pulcinella mask at the Acerra Museum, is one of Italy's most awarded puppet artists, with around twenty international awards. He performed and led workshops in Italy, France, Spain, Germany, England, Croatia, Romania, Russia, Iran and Colombia.
With his productions dedicated to Pulcinella he is both an actor and an author of the experimental Neapolitan Guarattelle, an ancient form of glove puppetry that began in Naples in the 1500's. With a distinctive manipulation technique, the Guarattelle keeps incredibly modern performative and theatrical nuances. The voice of Pulcinella (character unique to these shows) is produced by using a "Pivetta", a reed used by the puppeteer under his palate during the performances.
