This is not Gogol's The Nose, but it might very well be… with a touch of Jacques Prévert

The importance of having a nose, on not having a door slamming on it, on not sticking your nose on someone else's business, on not being nosy! And what about Jacques Prévert? "Well, in truth, he did not look like anybody else."

On the randomness of noses… A cadavre exquis of scenes, objects and word play, nonsensical, in which the surreal world that surrounds us is ever present.

A Tarumba's latest production was inspired by the universe of Gogol and Jacques Prévert, using objects and paper puppets it creates a kitsch atmosphere, unusual and party like, with a Russian flavour…

Even if happiness fails to remember you, don't you ever forget about it.
Jacques Prévert

Tarumba means to stun, to astound, and to amaze… all words that express the company's general feeling towards the art of puppetry.

A Tarumba - Teatro de Marionetas was created in 1993 with the resolve to create high quality work as well as to constantly innovate puppet theatre in Portugal.

Every year, the company creates the program and produces the FIMFA Lx, which was awarded the Prémio da Crítica de Teatro 2010 by the Associação Portuguesa de Críticos de Teatro. And in 2013, Luís Vieira and Rute Ribeiro, the company's art directors were awarded the Prémio Personalidade 2013, part of Prémio Nacional Multimédia, awarded by APMP - Associação Multimédia.

Since 1993, works by playwrights such as Christopher Marlowe, Federico Garcia Lorca, W. Shakespeare, Bertolt Brecht, were brought to the stage. The artistic and technical qualities of A Tarumba have not gone unnoticed, not only in Portugal as well as in countries such as France, Spain, UK, Denmark, Argentina, Brazil, Czech Republic, Slovenia, Slovakia, India, Pakistan, Hungary and Turkey. At the World Festival of Puppet Art (Prague), the company was awarded the Best Script award and nominated for Best Handling. In 2013, the show Mironescópio was staged at the IN section of the Festival Mondial des Théâtres de Marionnettes de Charleville-Mézières.

The CAMa - Centro de Artes da Marioneta is the home of the company and a place where projects are developed, as well as the Projecto Funicular, an international program for education.
